Privacy Policy
BiteBetter · Effective 12 August 2026
BiteBetter is a nutrition app that suggests gentle upgrades to the meals you already eat. This policy explains what we collect, why, where it goes, and how to delete it — in plain language, because honesty is the product.
What we collect
- Profile you give us: first name, age, gender, height, weight, activity level, food preference, goal, eating challenges, and any medical notes you choose to add (optional — the app works without them).
- Your meals: the meals you describe, the analysis and scores computed from them, the tweaks you follow, and your daily check-ins.
- Voice recordings (optional): if you use the microphone to speak a meal instead of typing it, that short recording is sent to our server, transcribed to text, and not stored — only the resulting text is kept, as part of your meals.
- Account identifiers: an anonymous account is created automatically. If you sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name and email from that provider (with Apple you may hide your email).
- Subscription status: handled by Apple / Google Play and RevenueCat; we never see your payment details, card numbers, or store account password.
- Usage analytics (Microsoft Clarity): to understand where the app confuses people, we use Microsoft Clarity, which collects how you interact with the app — screens visited, taps and scrolls, session replays of the app's screens, device type, and a device identifier. Clarity masks typed text by default. Clarity's own practices are described in Microsoft's privacy statement.
We collect no location, no contacts, no photos, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. There are no ads and no ad SDKs.
How we use it
- To compute your lifestyle score, macro estimates, and meal upgrade suggestions — the core function of the app.
- Clarity data is used only to improve the app's design and fix usability problems — never for advertising, and never joined with your health data.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not use health or nutrition data for advertising or marketing — to anyone, ever.
Third-party AI service (Groq)
What is sent: the meal descriptions you type, and — only if you use the microphone — the short voice recording you make. Who it is sent to: Groq, Inc., a third-party AI provider in the United States. How: over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection from our backend, at the moment you ask for an analysis, a meal upgrade, a chat answer, or a voice transcription. Why: Groq's AI models turn your food text into ingredient and nutrition estimates, and turn voice into text.
This data is not linked to your name or email, is not used for advertising, and voice recordings are not retained after transcription. Groq is contractually bound to protect this data to the same standard described in this policy and not to use it to train its own models. We ask for your explicit permission inside the app before any of this data is sent, and meal analysis is unavailable until you agree. If you would rather not share data with an AI provider, do not grant consent — the app cannot compute analyses without it.
Where it lives
- On your device: your day-to-day state is stored locally.
- Google Firebase (Firestore): your profile and daily analyses sync to your account so they survive phone changes. Firebase acts as our processor and protects data per its own terms.
- RevenueCat: subscription entitlement status, keyed to your account id.
- Microsoft Clarity: usage analytics and session replays, on Microsoft's servers.
Retention & deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. Delete it any time in the app: Profile → Delete account — this permanently erases your profile, analyses, and progress from our servers. You can also request deletion without the app at bitebetter — delete account, or email us (below) and we will delete it for you. Revoking consent is the same action: delete the account, or simply stop using the app and request deletion.
Children
BiteBetter is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Not medical advice
BiteBetter provides general nutrition information and estimates — not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Talk to your doctor before making medical decisions, especially if you have a medical condition.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update this page and the effective date above.
